Tag Tuesday is something new we are going to start. We are going to do a different tag each week. We would love for you to join us in fulfilling these tags or even in tagging us in any you would like to see us do.
We decided to start with a simple one-The Goodreads Tag, we found this on @allonsythornraxx's website , we don't know the original source as she didn't either, but here goes.
01) What was the last book you read?
-"Unsettled Ground" by Claire Fuller was the story of 51 year old twins still living with their mother in a secluded cottage in the woods, and what happens to them when their mother passes away unexpectedly. This is a story of family, secrets, mistakes and the lasting effects of all.
02) What are you currently reading?
-"The Diplomat's Wife", - a personal choice not an ARC, I love Pam Jenoff's books and this one meets and surpasses expectations! Set immediately after WWII, it is filled with love, loss, family and the lasting devastation of war on all.
03) What was the last book you marked as TBR?
-"Still Crazy" by Judy Prescott Marshall, it is based on a real love story, this is about one woman, a wife, still very much in love with her husband after over 30 years of marriage who is confronted with evidence of her husband's infidelity, and not for the first time. It is of how she responds and what she does to take control of her own life, thus controlling her own destiny without relying on a man.
04) What book do you plan to read next?
-Who knows? I jump around, sometimes I start a book, if it doesn't grab me right away I try another and so on until I get one that hooks me. This doesn't mean I don't read the ones I set aside, it only means they didn't feel right for that time and will be a better fit later. Plus I have been reading two books at a time. One physical and one e-book, the e-book I am reading next just ( actually just started) is "Lenora in the Morning Light", a fictionalized account of the love affair between artist Max Earnst and artist Lenora Carrington, so far it is excellent, and written very poetically.
05) Do you use a 5 star rating system?
-Yes we do, and sometimes we expand on it with 1/4 or 1/2 stars, when we do this we usually explain why we felt that certain books needed a 1/4 or 1/2 extra star, our reasoning behind our madness so to speak!
06) Are you doing a 2021 reading challenge?
-We are! We are doing 3 of them, the Goodreads Reading Challenge, The Historical Fiction Reading Challenge hosted by The Intrepid Reader and The NetGalley/Edelweiss Reading Challenge hosted by Socrates Book Reviews, it is our first year for the latter two challenges, the Goodreads challenge we did last year also.
07) Do you have a wish-list?
-We do, several, Goodreads, Amazon and Thrift Books are our main lists, there are just so many books out there, we can't get enough, EVER!
08) What do you plan to buy next?
-"The Bell Jar", by Sylvia Plath, we have been wanting this one for a long long time and it doesn't seem anyone is going to get it for us so we will break down and buy it ourselves.
09) Do you have any favorite quotes? Share a few.
-"We accept the love we think we deserve."-Stephen Chbosky, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"
-"And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."-F. Scott Fitzgerald, "The Great Gatsby"
-"Anything worth dying for is certainly worth living for."-Joseph Heller, "Catch-22"
10) Who are your favorite authors?
-Too many to name them all. The ones we have loved the longest are Margret Mitchell, J.D. Salinger, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jonathen Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell, Pam Jenoff and Lisa Wingate.
Ok, I have been told (actually I have been nagged at by my children) to do a "All About Me" or a "get to Know Me" tag, and they tell me I must put a photo of me not my cat on it!! I am not a person that likes the spotlight to be on them, I run when a camera is pulled out or volunteer to be the person to take the photo, so I have avoided doing any type of post that requires me to talk about me! But from what I have been reading and researching, people want to know who they are dealing with, the person behind the computer screen. So here is a photo my daughter took of me ( I tried to hide behind the book).
And now with the picture part over I will attempt to share a little about who I am and how I came to be here, on the internet, with my very own website and what I want to get from doing this and also what I can do/give to you all for visiting my site and following me on Instagram, and Facebook and all those other places we are at.
This is an "All About Me " or a "Get to Know Me" tag:
1) Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
------I was born in 1963, in September, just 2 months before President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. I lived with my mom in Virginia for about a year before coming to live at my Grandma's house in Pennsylvania. I was eventually adopted by my mother's oldest sister and her husband who were in their early 40s and never had children. My mother was not married when she had me and could not take care for me. My aunt and uncle became my parents and to this day that will always be. My mother was more like an older sister or friend to me.
-----I spent my childhood and teen years in rural Pennsylvania, always wishing for something different, dreaming of big city life.
2) What is your full name? Are you named after anyone? If so, who?
-----My full name is Lori Ann Mehollic (maiden name) I was named after my birth mother and my aunt, they took their names, Dolores (aunt) and Gloria (mother) and extracted Lori from the two.
3) Do You love playing or just watching sports?
-----Really neither, I am not too much of a sports fan. I will watch the Pittsburgh Penguins but that is the only ones. I played softball in Jr. High and took gymnastics for a while, but that was the extent of my sports career.
4) Favorite person in modern history?
-----Hmm, this is a tough one, Gloria Steinman comes to mind, but there are so many that have impacted or influenced me through the years.
5) Favorite writer in modern history?
-----I have several favorite writers. I can't really pick one. The one that touches me the most is Mitch Albom-"Tuesdays with Morrie", I will never forget that story or tire of rereading it.
6) Favorite Musician from the 20th century?
-----Hands down, Jim Morrison, I have loved him since high school. He outshines all others.
7) Which animal do you love the most?
-----I was a dog person all my life, that changed when Fuzz was born in my bedroom closet.
8) Do you have children? If so how many and son or daughter?
-----I have 2, a son and a daughter. My son is the oldest, he was born in Huntington Beach, California, my daughter is 5yrs younger and was born in Weirton, West Virginia. Their names are Ricky and Rachael, and no the 2 R's were not planned as such.
9) Are you married?
-----I was married to my high school sweetheart for 32 years when he passed away in 2015 from heart disease, he was only 54, I was 51.
10) What is your favorite drink?
-----My favorite drink is unsweetened ice tea. I do not drink any kinda of soda/pop, or alcohol. I used to drink a couple pots of coffee a day, then one day it just didn't taste good anymore and I quit.
11) Do you have a celebrity crush? If so, on whom?
-----James Spader, no question, I love him as Raymond Reddington on The Blacklist. It is the only show I watch, I don't really watch TV.
12) Are you an extrovert or an introvert?
-----This is an easy one, Introvert. I will not speak to a stranger first, no matter what I am not going to approach anyone and introduce myself. This tends to lead people to think I am stuck-up and snobbish, but I am not. I am very insecure and shy. This prevents me from having friends and I think I miss out on a lot of fun because of it. I have tried to change, but there is something buried deep that won't let me I guess.
13) What was your greatest accomplishment in high school?
-----My awards for my art. My drawings and awards for the Literary Magazine that I worked on as assistant art editor and writer.
14) If you could own your own business what would it be?
-----I have always dreamed of having a bookstore, but not just selling books but selling art too. Some of my own art and from the community, featuring local artists. I would love to do something like that.
15) What is your biggest fear?
-----Well, after spiders ( terrified of them), my biggest fear is fear of rejection, of not being good enough. I am a Virgo, and we Virgos are perfectionists but I tend to take it tothe extreme and it is not a good thing. I am always second guessing myself. Like with this web site. You wouldn't believe what it took me to start this. I was scared to death. With lots of pushing from my son I did it though.
16) What is your favorite place?
-----My favorite place is the Pacific Ocean. I loved living right across the street from it when I lived in California.
17) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
-----Easy, coffee flavored. I love it!
For the last few I am just going to tell you the answers, I am tired of typing!
---My favorite comedian is George Carlin,
---The best book I have read so far this year is "We Begin At The End".
---My pet peeve is when people leave cupboard doors open, I can't stand that, it drives me nuts. If you can open it, you can shut it, I mean come on. What really is the problem huh?
---And lastly, my biggest regret: Not finishing my college degree. Yes, I quit. I had a semester to go to finish and life got in the way. I regret it.
